If you are having trouble installing your UXP Panel, the most common causes are below.
Error 1: CCX File Not Recognized
Reason 1: Wrong Download Location
The .CCX installer file must be on the same drive as Adobe Photoshop and the Creative Cloud app. When the installer runs, it searches only the drive it is stored on — if Photoshop is on a different drive, the installation will fail.
To avoid wasting time on this, please simply run the installation from these folders:
- Mac: run the .CCX file from the Downloads folder on Macintosh HD.
- Windows: run the .CCX file from the root folder of your C: drive.
Once the panel is installed, you can move the installer file anywhere you like.
Reason 2: Installer Agent Not Recognised
If nothing happens when you double-click the .CCX file, or it is not recognised, you need to manually open it with the Adobe Plugin Installer Agent.
For Mac users:
Mac: right-click the .CCX file, choose Open With, then locate and select this file:
Macintosh HD ▸ Library ▸ Application Support ▸ Adobe ▸ Adobe Desktop Common ▸ UPI ▸ AdobePluginInstallerAgent
Select the AdobePluginInstallerAgent file and press Open.
Mac OS Monterey 12.4 and later:
Macintosh HD ▸ Library ▸ Application Support ▸ Adobe ▸ Adobe Desktop Common ▸ RemoteComponents ▸ UPI ▸ UnifiedPluginInstallerAgent ▸ UnifiedPluginInstallerAgent.app
Select the UnifiedPluginInstallerAgent.app file and press Open.
For Win users:
Windows: right-click the .CCX file, choose Open With → More Apps, scroll down to Look for another app on this PC, then locate and select this file:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Desktop Common\UPI\AdobePluginInstallerAgent
Press Open to run the installer.
Error 2: The Photoshop Script File Isn't Working
Set reading and writing permissions for the Presets folder on your computer to install our custom Brushes, Tool Presets, and Actions. You must have permissions set to Read & Write in the Presets folder.
Mac: locate the Presets folder and right-click on it, then select Get Info:
~/Applications ▸ Adobe Photoshop [Version] ▸ Presets
- Click the padlock icon at the bottom of the window to unlock, then enter your password.
- Set permissions to Read & Write for everyone.
- In the bottom left corner of the window, click the small circle with dots.
- Click Apply to enclosed items and press OK.
Once permissions are set, proceed with the activation of your custom Brushes, Tool Presets, and Actions — either using the script file to place them automatically or, if the permissions did not help, place them manually.
Error 3: Creative Cloud Error — File Type Not Recognised
This is the same root cause as Error 1. The installation file must be run from the same drive as Adobe Photoshop and the Creative Cloud app.
- Mac: run the .CCX file from the Downloads folder on Macintosh HD.
- Windows: run the .CCX file from the root folder of your C: drive.
Error 4: Creative Cloud Error Code 2
This is usually a permissions error or a disk space issue. Free up space on the drive, then relaunch the Creative Cloud desktop app and try installing again. If the error persists, restart the Creative Cloud app and try once more.
Error 5: Creative Cloud Error Codes 9 and 10
Check your internet connection, relaunch the Creative Cloud desktop app, and try installing again.
Error 6: Creative Cloud Error -2 and Other Codes
This error indicates a failure to complete the download. Find your error code and its recommended solution here: Error downloading or updating Creative Cloud apps.
If your error code is not listed there, see the Network and connectivity troubleshooting section of the same document.
Still Experiencing Creative Cloud Errors?
Check for updates first. Go to Help → Check for Updates inside the Creative Cloud app.
If no updates are available, uninstall the Creative Cloud app, restart your computer, then reinstall Creative Cloud and try again.
